General informations

In October 1995, the 1st Meeting on Numerical Methods for Differential Equations took place at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra. The purpose of such meeting was to enhance the dialogue between mathematicians and engineers, therefore creating a greater connection between theoretical problems and computational aspects.

Following this meeting, a 2nd Meeting on Numerical Methods for Differential Equations is going to take place from 25 to 27 February, 1998. The congress will be attended by nearly 100 researchers from different countries.

There will be plenary sessions of 45 minutes during the morning in the Auditório da Reitoria da Universidade de Coimbra and parallel sessions of 20 minutes in the afternoon in the Department of Mathematics.

The 24th February is a holiday. However there il be a registration desk at the Department of Mathematics from 5pm to 8pm.

Proceedings

  • The Conference Proceedings will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics. All the papers will be refereed before acceptance for publication.

  • Contributed papers will also be the object of a preprint publication - Mathematical Texts, Serie B - by the Department of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra. As the papers will be reproduced just as they are received from the author, they must have a good printing quality.

  • Abstracts and papers must be written in english using TeX (11pt letter size) and the typed area should be 16cm x 22.5cm. Try to fill up all the area without too much spacing between lines. The sheets should not carry a page number. The page numbering is to be done by pencil on the back. Drawings and figures should be of high quality. The size of the paper should be DIN A4 if possible (297mm x 210mm). Each paper should be introduced by a list of keywords and a self-contained abstract on no more than thirty lines without long formulae. We will enclose an example of a page layout.New

  • In order to mantain the volume to a reasonable size, please limit your paper to about 10 pages if you presented a 20 minutes communication and 15 pages if you delivered a 45 minutes lecture.

  • The final version of the papers (4 copies) must be delivered until 30 April, 1998.

    Registration Fees

    The payment must be made in portuguese escudos (PTE). The registration fee is PTE 20000 (made payable to: Departamento de Matemática da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra) and includes:

    (i) Coffee in the breaks;
    (ii) Lunches during the meeting;
    (iii) The conference diner (26th at night);
    (iv) A special edition of the Department of Mathematics with the papers presented at the conference.

    For graduate students the registration fee is PTE 10000 and do not includes the conference diner. The graduate students will need certification by the institution where they take their degree attesting that they are graduate students without employment and that the institution is unable to give financial support to them.
