How do I change my password?

To change the password you have to execute the command passync on server moa.

This way the password will be changed in all Windows and Unix/Linux systems.

To access the server moa you must use a SSH client. In Windows systems you can use the PuTTY program available for free. In Linux systems simply execute ssh moa at the command prompt.

Note: The server moa is only accessible from within the Department of Mathematics local network. To access it from the exterior you must use VPN remote access or Remote access via phone.

How do I configure my e-mail client?

For outgoing mail you must use:

SMTP server - nmail.mat.uc.pt

use authentication

secure connection using TLS - port 587 or SSL - port 465

For incoming mail you must use:

IMAP server - nmail.mat.uc.pt

secure connection using SSL - port 993 (default for SSL)

IMAP directory (or prefix) - none

To read existing mail in the old mail server (replaced in January 2010) you must use:

IMAP server - imap.mat.uc.pt

secure connection using SSL - port 993 (default for SSL)

IMAP directory (or prefix) - Mail

If you wish to check your email using a web interface you can do it in the side menu by choosing Webmail.

How can I access my unix file area from Windows environment?

The simplest way is accessing the Computation Centre Samba server.

To access your files using this server, you may do the following steps:

Start -> Run -> \\samba1\LOGIN -> Ok

(replacing LOGIN by your Computation Centre user name)

On windows computers at Computation Centre rooms, your unix file area is automatically accessible in a drive known as z:

Note: This method works only on computers connected to Department of Mathematics local network.

Can I access to my unix file area from outside the Department of Mathematics local network?

Yes. For that you should use a SFTP client. Two of these software clients, available for free, are:

FileZilla
Core FTP Lite

The server name to be used is ftp.mat.uc.pt (SFTP protocol).

Note: Alternatively, you can use the VPN remote access or Remote access via phone, being the access to the files as if it were done in the Department of Mathematics local network.

Can I have a personal web page at the Computation Centre?

Yes. Just copy your personal web page files and subdirectories to a directory named public_html in your unix file area.

At least, the public_html directory and subdirectories must have execute permissions for all users, while the files must have read permissions for all users.

The URL to access the page is:

http://www.mat.uc.pt/~LOGIN

(replacing LOGIN by your Computation Centre user name)

The file that contains the home page should be named index.html, so that the home page is displayed when the above URL is used.
