Ugly 1 Let me first say that I haven't built or flown this plane. Yet... But I do plan to. I'm planning to use an OS Max .15 engine that I've had kicking around since I first got into the hobby. It may not be enough, but I'll try it. General dimensions were taken from an advertisement picture of the Morris Hobbies profile Hots and scaled to fit. The wing design and airfoil was borrowed from the Tadpole, a Model Airplane News construction project and mucho modified/scaled to suit. The fuselage profile was borrowed from the Orion, designed by Jan-Ivar Lidstrom, which I got here on the Internet. I've never built a kit of a profile plane (except line-control), so the design was invented on the fly. Should be adequately strong and not too heavy - I hope. The wing gets three 1/16" wing braces. I'm paranoid - I've folded wings before and didn't like it. It is freeware. Do what you want with the design. The clevis, control horn, servo and O.S. Max .15 engine dimensions are pretty precise (within thousandths). I used a vernier caliper. Drawn with TurboCAD 3.0. By the way, IMSI's TurboCAD 3.0 has cured _all_ the bugs the earlier versions had. Earlier versions had some nasty problems that may have given this program a bit of a reputation. It's now an absolutely excellent, stable and extremely powerful CAD program and is priced very reasonably. I highly recommend it. There is a demo version at http://204.182.61.30/index.html IMHO TurboCAD 3.0 flat blows away Drawing Board LT and probably Drawing Board as well. I saw the non-interactive demo - was very impressed - so I downloaded it and tried it out. Then I was not so impressed... It has some nice features (LOVE the automatic construction lines!), but the program is a bit thin for its price. This is my first complete "from the ground up" design. If you build one, please let me know how it worked out, what you had to change, what motor you used, etc. Also, if you have any comments or suggestions, please email me. glenh@iceonline.com Glen Hathaway 22571 Westminster Hwy.
