PROJECT PRESENTING RECOMMENDATIONS

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS:

• The Congress will function simultaneously in four rooms. The distribution of the topics presentation, by auditorium, is the Scientific and Organizing Comission's responsibility.
• The date limit for the summaries'delivery is 31 December 96 ( mail date ). The selection will be finished by 31 January 97. On that date the applicants will be informed of the results. The Scientific Comission will inform the first subscriber until 20 February 97, of the date, hour and place of the project presentation.
• The communications' selection will be done from the summaries, in view of which the subject's exposition must be clear and concrete, avoiding subjective terms, vague or very general information. Otherwise it can lead the members of the Jury to rejecting projects or having difficulties in the prizes' awards. The rules below have been made in order to prevent that type of situations.
• From the summaries of the selected communications a brochure will be made which will be delivered to every member of the Congress and that disclosure is considered authorized beforehand. It's necessary to send three summary-files in Portuguese and one in English. The printer shop works this material out as it is received, in view of which the presentation must be careful and the computer's originals must be sent. For the same reason, sending a project by fax is accepted ( one copy ) only if the other copies are later sent by mail.
• The full identification of the author(s), as well as his/her/their address and the name of the institution where he/she/they work(s), are necessary for future contacts. In the case of a project made by more than one person, the addresses will be those of the first author. These details will be unwritten in the summary-file if people don't wish to see them published in the brochure. Nevertheless those details must be sent to the Scientific Comission.
• The full name(s) of the author(s) are necessary as there will be a project certificate.
• After the selection the Scientific Comission must be informed of who will present the project, if that is not written in the file, at the moment of the contest, in the case of group projects.

1. GENERALITIES
   Authorship- The authors will be introduced by the last family name, in capital letters, followed by the first names. If there is more than one author, they will be separated from each other by a semicolon. For example - SALGUEIRO, Nídia Rodrigues Mendes; SANTOS, José; GOMES, Maria Rosa. Important information must be followed by a note ( for example: CEEMC; Master in Education Sciences; Ph, Dr ).
   Institution- There must be indicated the name of the hospital, health centre, school, or other, as well as the city/place, telephone number and fax.
   Address- That of the first co-author.
   Printing- Printing will be in black and white ( typewritten/computer ), at one space, considering the margins and spaces marked in the file of the Congress summaries.
   

2. - RULES FOR PRESENTING COMMUNICATION SUMMARIES/BILLS AND OTHERS
   1. - LECTURES ABOUT THE PROPOSED BIC TOPICS
      In this modality there will be lectures delivered by guest lecturers. The summaries must follow the established indications for modalities B and C, according to their contents.
   2. - COMMUNICATIONS BASED ON RESEARCH PROJECTS FOR CONTEST ( B )
      The summary must include the reason and aims of the project; the problem/question(s) of the research and/or hypothesis; the methodology, where it will be exposed, in a clear and concise way, the sample and its description, the form of its extraction from the population, the studying variable, as well as the instruments of observation and measurement and the inherent process to its application. In case of an experimental research, the steps followed and the inherent process to experimental intervention must be explained.

      In short, this section must allow the exact knowledge of what has been done to reach the intended purpose or the testing of the hypothesis. Afterwards there must come the report of the results found, especially the most relevant, their statistical expression, as well as the significancy level to which the hypothesis was confirmed ( if it is the case). Finally the discussion of the results, where the most important will be presented, interpreting them on the basis of the reference chart and/or of the consulted authors, weak and strong points of the study aiming the results'generalisation.

      The summary must end with the main conclusions pointing out the theoretical utility or the practical application of the results in nursing.
      This information can be presented under the form of sections, by giving it titles, or descriptively, dedicating a paragraph to each section.

   3. - FREE COMMUNICATIONS ( C )
      The summaries of theoretical or revision communications must contain the object of study and/or the most relevant thesis. The exposed ideas will be credited on relevant experience about the subject and/or the consulted authors. The studies based on field work will be valued, at the moment of selection.
   4. - BILLS/POSTERS ( D )
      The bill must obey the above rules concerning its content. When the content presentation is essentially graphic, the summary must contain the ideas that are going to be expressed, as well as the pictures and symbols that are going to be used, or a reduced copy of the bill, if already done.
      - The bill/poster will have the dimensions 100cm X 65cm.
      - A space for sticking and time for exhibition will be conferred.
      - During the exhibition, the author(s) must supply all the documentation about its content, if asked so by the members of the Congress.
      
   5. - AUDIOVISUALS ( VIDEOS/SLIDES/FILMS ) ( E )
      The official file of summaries must be correctly filled in what concerns the authorship and address. The summary must contain the production-file; the main points of the guide ( video/slide/film ); goal; lasting period; equipment necessary to its presentation. ( video 1/2 inches VHS available ).
   6. - USING KEY WORDS
      To make the project divulgation easier, it would be very useful if the key words were included at the end of the summary.

3. - REWARDS
   The AEEEMC will give monetary prizes to the three best communications (modality B ) selected by the Jury as well as a Youth Prize to nurses with less than three years of practice, who have not any kind of specialization. There will also be honourable mentions proposed by the Jury:

   	1st Prize -  200.000$00			Youth Prize - 50.000$00
   	2nd Prize -  100.000$00			Honourable Mentions
   	3rd Prize -   50.000$00
   

   To take part in the contest is necessary that the author or at least one of the authors ( group ) is enrolled. The same for modalities C, D and E.

   An honorary prize will be awarded to the bills ( The Best Bill ).

   Another prize of this type will be awarded to the best reception brochure. Those prizes will be awarded by the votes of the Congress members and by the Jury.

   The rewards will be announced and awarded during the Congress closing session. To honour this act the Health Minister and other individualities will be invited.

   For the prizes award the Jury will take into account the originality, the relevance of the project, the exactness of its performance, the clearness and objectivity of the summary's information as well as the oral exposition, the use and adaptation of the media involved. The oral presentation will be made only by one author when there are several authors. The time limit goes from 30 to 45 minutes for lecturers ( modality A ), 20 minutes for modality B and 15 for modality C, including the debate.

   The Jury may suggest that the author(s) change(s) the communications from one modality to another or present(s) it in form of bill. The Jury may decide not to give any prize if it is considered that the projects have not reached the desired level. The Jury's decision is final and supreme without the possibility of appealing from it.
