This year marks the 25th anniversary of Professor Semyon Borisovich Yakubovich's arrival in Portugal—a celebration of his extraordinary academic contributions and the enduring legacy he has built. Born on January 22, 1961, in Brest, Belarus, Professor Yakubovich is an internationally renowned mathematician whose research and mentorship have profoundly influenced the field of mathematics.

Although he always had a passion for numbers, Professor Yakubovich's true calling to mathematics emerged at the age of 15, when he studied under the legendary Kolmogorov at Moscow University's boarding school for young mathematicians.

After holding several academic positions as Associate Professor and Researcher at the Universities of Fukuoka, Leuven, and Eindhoven, he ultimately settled in Portugal, where he has remained ever since. Since joining the University of Porto, he has made significant contributions to the areas of integral transforms, special functions, and their applications across diverse mathematical disciplines.

Professor Yakubovich has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles published in leading international journals, garnering more than 1059 citations according to MathSciNet. In addition to his prolific research output, he is the author of several landmark books, including The Double Mellin-Barnes Type Integrals and Their Applications to Convolution Theory (1992), The Hypergeometric Approach to Integral Transforms and Convolutions (1994), Index Transforms (1996), and Convolution-like Structures, Differential Operators and Diffusion Processes (2022).

Professor Yakubovich also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious journal Integral Transforms and Special Functions, published by Taylor & Francis, while contributing as an associate editor for several other esteemed mathematics journals. His editorial leadership and academic achievements underscore his vital role in advancing mathematical research and fostering international collaboration.

This congress is not only a celebration of Professor Yakubovich's academic milestones but also a tribute to the legacy he has built through his students. The influence of an academic figure is best measured not just by their publications but by the thriving academic community they nurture. This event seeks to honor Professor Yakubovich's profound impact, both through his scholarship and the generations of mathematicians he has mentored and inspired.
