REQUIREMENTS & DEADLINES

Requirements

Normally, candidates are required to have completed a degree in Mathematics (or a related area) of one of the following types:

  • a Master degree (second cycle of higher studies in the European Union Bolonha system);
  • a Bachelor degree (4 or more year undergraduate degree in the pre-Bolonha system);
  • any degree which is legally considered equivalent to one of the above.

Applications from candidates who are expected to satisfy the above requirement before the planned date of start of their doctoral studies within the program are welcome. If accepted, admission will be conditioned on completion of one of the required degrees.

However, for applying for a scholarship the academic degree must be completed by September 5, and if the academic degree has been awarded by a foreign institution a proof of recognition/equivalence to a Portuguese degree might be necessary.

Exceptionally, candidates whose scientific, academic and professional curriculum demonstrates ability to pursue doctoral studies may also apply. It is up to the Steering Committee to evaluate whether the special conditions are met. For this purpose, instead of the habilitations certificate, candidates should include a transcript (official listing of courses already completed and the corresponding grades).

Deadline for applications 2020/21

The call for applications to the Program is open this year between January 10 and February 22, 2020. The maximum number of students to be admitted in the 2020/21 edition is 25.
