Universidade de Coimbra has been making regular observations of Earth's magnetic field since 1866.
Currently Coimbra's magnetic observatory, designated COI by the International Association
of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, is managed by OGAUC.
The COI station is located at OGAUC's facilities in Alto da Baleia, Coimbra
(lat. 40.222°N; lon. 351.578°E, alt. 99.0m).
Its instrumentation include a DI-flux magnetometer (consisting of a fluxgate sensor MAG-01H mounted
on a MG2KP steel-free theodolite); a tri-axial fluxgate variometer FGE model and a scalar proton type
magnetometer GSM-90F.

In addition to the latest total intensity and HDZ
components of the magnetic field, and their short term variation,
here can be found the local geomagnetic indices (computed
taking into account the daily variation of the local field).
Additionally, at the beginning of each month is issued a bulletin
of the geomagnetic conditions at Coimbra during the last month.
Previous data and reports can be found in our database, while
older data are available on OGAUC's webpage.
