The understanding of large-scale atmospheric circulations and the development of models to predict climate change and to
simulate weather are crucial for today's society; think, for instance, of the greenhouse effect, the El Niño or the monitoring
of hurricanes.

The problems arising in this field, which concern fluid motions on a vast range of time and spatial scales and are highly influenced by rotation and stratification effects, are modelled by complex systems of nonlinear partial differential equations.
This school, intended both for researchers and post-graduate students, gathers leading physicists and applied mathematicians and aims at providing a comprehensive overview of this challenging topic.
