Chromospheric Science with the STEREO Mission

Angelos Vourlidas, NRL

The STEREO mission due for launch in the late summer of 2006 comprises two spacecraft drifting away from the Earth at opposite directions. The twin imaging suites, called SECCHI, will provide, for the first time, stereoscopic views CMEs and the corona including the cool, upper chromospheric line of HeI at 304A. In my talk, I give an overview ofhte mission and its science objectives and will describe in detail the capabilities of the instruments for chromospheric investigations, especially in coordination with ground-based observatories.
