Stellar Atmospheres Structural Changes due to the Diamagnetic Effect

Netzach Farbiash and Raphael Steinitz, Ben-Gurion University

The structure of stellar atmospheres is modified (when they include) by embedded diverging magnetic fields, due to the Diamagnetic Effect (DME) and gravity, resulting in speed filters. We examine relevant effects of these speed filters, using numerical simulations of charged particle motion. These demonstrate that the hydrostatic and thermal structure of the atmosphere is modified by the DME. Diminishing the “effective” gravity by the faster particles of the normal distribution modifies the run of temperature and pressure.
