Flare associated type III bursts and magnetic field topology

We investigate the occurence of type III bursts in relation to the location of the associated flare in the magnetic field configuration. To find out the preferred locations of flares connected with type III bursts we perform first a statistical analysis of flare - type III correlation during low solar activity and then study in detail several cases from that sample using extrapolations of the measured photospheric magnetic field. The probability for a flare to produce a type III burst is highly depressed for a position inside the active region in comparison to those outside with a strong preference to the edge in front of the leader spot.
