Math in Music In the end a tricky exercise for those that made it to this point;) An old man owns 17 sheeps, that he want to be devided between his 3 sons after his death. The oldest shell become exactly the half (1/2) of the sheeps, the second oldest shell become a exactly third (1/3) and the youngest a exactly nintht (1/9). After the father died, the three brothers are getting into a fight becaus it seems that the wish of the father could not be forfilled precisely. How to devide the 17 sheeps? They decide to go to a wise man in their village, who should solve the problem. He is thinking a minute and says then: I give you a sheep than it will work!!: The first son are getting 18/2, so 9 sheeps The second son gets 18/3, so 6 sheeps The third son gets 18/9, so 2 sheeps and because 9+6+2=17 the three brothers can give the sheep of the wise man back to him and everyone is happy. How can this be?!? |
