The Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra holds historical collections of teaching models, the oldest of which were acquired in the early 1870s for the Descriptive Geometry and Drawing classes at the former Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra, during the tenures of Professors Florêncio Mago Barreto Feio (1819-1891) and José Miguel de Abreu (1850-1921), respectively.
Other collections of teaching models held in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra are the Series IV of wire models designed by Herman Wiener (1857-1939), professor at Darmstadt Technical University, that was acquired in 1906 for the course of Algebra, Analytic Geometry and Spherical Trigonometry, taught by Professor Gonçalo Xavier de Almeida Garrett (1841-1925), and the series of geometric models produced by the Martin Schilling's company in Leipzig, acquired between early 1912 and mid-1914 as part of a Geometry Laboratory established on the initiative of Professor Luciano Pereira da Silva (1864-1926).
